Exploring the Language of West African Rhythm, Movement + Community

As Liberation Series Pop-Up Participating Artists, in collaboration with The Laundromat Project and Nicholas Brooklyn, we invite you to an interactive celebration of West African rhythm, movement, culture, and community.

Through live drumming, West African dance, call-and-response, cultural learning, and play, participants will explore the relationship between rhythm and movement while experiencing how the drum, other African instruments, and the body can communicate with one another.

The activation is designed as a space for artistic expression, gathering, cultural connection, and collective joy & play.

No dance experience required. All movement levels are welcome.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Live drumming + percussion

  • West African movement + rhythm

  • Cultural storytelling

  • Call-and-response + improvisation

  • Community participation + play

  • A closing Joy Cypher celebrating rhythm, movement, and collective joy
